Town Meeting · Meeting of June 2, 2026
Clinton Middle School eighth graders held their annual Mock Town Meeting, passing six of seven student-written articles while rejecting a $550,000 bike lane proposal. State Representative Meg Kilcoyne told students a beautification idea from last year's session helped her secure $50,000 in the state budget for fountains at Central Park and Carlisle Park. Police Chief Brian Coyne said the department left civil service and now pays officers extra for speaking Spanish, Arabic or Portuguese, telling students "we want our department to look like and reflect the community that we serve." DPW employee Lisa Profitt, citing Clinton's narrow streets and limited parking, helped sink the bike lane article after two card votes.
Other passed articles funded a $5,000 farmers market, a $15,000 composting station with curbside pickup exploration, a ban on data centers, and a $9,500 mental health hotline and website.
